"It was a around the 5th month of my pregnancy that I started to panic (just a little!) about the forthcoming event of the birth of my child.
Luckily, at the same time I was invited to attend an evening seminar led by a Doula. Not having heard of Doula's before, I was intrigued. And I’m so glad I went. As soon as Belinda, the Doula, started telling us how a Doula could help you, I knew this was exactly what I wanted. Everything she spoke about, like the birth & labour, made sense. My questions were answered. She enlightened us on procedure, care, emotions we may feel & I slowly began to feel my fears subside. I arranged to meet with Belinda afterwards with my husband & she talked us through what she could do for us. Within an hour, we both agreed & we had our own Doula! From then on in, Belinda was there for us. Any questions or problems regarding the forthcoming birth were discussed in detail. We met with her for two in depth antenatal sessions also. Belinda had a great knowledge of hospital care & procedure too. Whilst never assuming to take control or be involved in any medical decisions, she had experience of such things as what pain relief would be offered, different types of birth that was incredibly helpful, especially to a first time Mum. I wanted a natural birth & this was discussed in detail with Belinda & together she helped us form our birth plan.
Now all we had to do was wait…
Our son, Charlie was born on 18th Feb. 2008, two weeks late-I was ready to pop! I had to be induced & after a few complications I was advised to have an emergency C-section as Charlie was in distress. Nothing at all like the birth plan. But he was born beautiful & healthy, weighing 8lbs 4oz & looking just like his Daddy.
Throughout this quite stressful time, Belinda remained by our sides. She gave us constant support, focus & encouragement. She definitely made it a happier & easier time for us. I truly believe that having a Doula was the best decision we made.
Since having our darling Charlie, Belinda has also been around for post natal care & advice. Mother, father & baby are doing just fine".
